Developing Compassion and Empathy in Students in a Trauma-Sensitive Classroom

Now more than ever, we need to create classroom communities in which our students feel connected and free to talk openly about how they are feeling and to ask for what they need. Research indicates that there are specific steps that can be taken in order to foster compassion and empathy among and between students. This will be a necessity as we emerge from the pandemic and expect that our students will be ready to learn.
